Chelsea

The West Stand at Chelsea under construction. Although these stands appear to be immensely strong, severe weight restrictions are imposed on any objects to be fixed on the outer reaches and this has big implications for the design of music capable full range audio systems required for modern stands. The obvious solution would be to use plastic based cabinets which are also waterproof, however when dealing with bass frequencies in particular such materials can be very poor performers. As a result most of our designs utilise the thinnest birch ply possible suitably braced to prevent flexing and waterproofed with fibreglass, this combined with drive units with neodymium magnets keep the weight to an acceptable level. One of the main reasons for such stringent weight limits is the requirement to allow for heavy falls of wet snow a few centimetres of which can add many tonnes to the roof. People who live in London may find that possibility rather unlikely these days.
